RE

St Barnabas School follows the Discovery RE Scheme of Work and Understanding Christianity. These two resources are complementary but they are distinct. They are used together to deliver a holistic and balanced RE programme. We achieve this by replacing the Discovery RE Christianity enquiries with Understanding Christianity units, thus ensuring clear progression of learning the core concepts.

Through our Religious Education curriculum, we aim to give children knowledge and understanding of how these religions influence individuals, communities and societies in our world.  Discussion is essential and respect for different cultures and beliefs are actively promoted.

Understanding Christianity - The teaching and learning approach enables pupils to engage with a variety of Bible texts in order to explore how Christians understand the core concepts. It explores ways in which Christians might live in the light of these texts, within the Christian community and in their individual lives. It allows pupils to reflect on some of the questions and puzzles that arise from the Bible, and to consider any implications or connections with their own lives and ways of understanding the world.

Discovery RE - he enquiry approach makes RE exciting and engaging, it develops children’s learning in a progressive way.   Discovery RE focuses on critical thinking skills, on personal reflection into the child’s own thoughts and feelings, on growing subject knowledge and nurturing spiritual development. The enquiry approach makes RE exciting and engaging, it develops children’s learning in a progressive way.   Discovery RE focuses on critical thinking skills, on personal reflection into the child’s own thoughts and feelings, on growing subject knowledge and nurturing spiritual development.
