I am very excited to inform you that on 2nd February 2023, we will be holding a whole school Times Table / Number Bonds Challenge.
This will involve children taking their ability to recall times table (for KS2 children) and number bonds facts (for KS1 children) to the next level as they compete against their peers to see who can accurately answer the most times table/ number bond facts in a given time.
The way that this will work, is that the children will continue to compete in their classrooms up until the week of the challenge, and the strongest Times Table / Number Bond champions of each class will then go head to head in the hall surrounded by the rest of the school who will provide support and encouragement. The winner of each round will receive a maths based prize!
In preparation for this, please encourage your children to practise their number bonds and times tables. This could be verbally, in a written format, or for KS1, on White Rose 1-minute maths app (free to download from the app store), and KS2, on ‘Times Table Rockstars’ or ‘Hit the Button’ (just type into Google to play!).
We look forward to the challenge!

Wednesday 1st February 2023
Thursday 2nd March 2023

Thursday 16th March 2023
The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over the failure of the Secretary of State for Education to make available additional and sufficient funds to allow employers to pay a fully funded increased in teachers’ pay at rate greater than inflation and not because of any issues at our school.
I’m getting in touch to confirm that the school will be open as usual on the above planned strike dates. Please send your child in as normal.

‘How effective is the school’s distinctive Christian vision, established and promoted by leadership at all levels, in enabling pupils and adults to flourish?’

The Department for Education has produced new guidance on ways to introduce and implement standards that will improve children’s education.
One of the ways they aim to achieve this is to deliver a richer and longer average school week. They are introducing a minimum expectation on the length of the school week to 32.5 hours for all mainstream state-funded schools. They expect schools to work towards this expectation as soon as possible.
We aim to trial the increased school week from Monday 13th June 2022 by starting school for all children in Reception to Year 6 at 8.45am and finishing at 3.15pm. Please find attached our updated attendance policy to reflect these changes.

We are very excited to be welcoming ‘Quirks Animal Roadshow’ to deliver a workshop the children today. They will be bringing along a selection of animals including millipedes, tarantulas, snakes and frogs.
The workshop will help broaden the horizons of many children who have may not visited zoos/animals parks or had the experience of handling animals.
To enable us to provide these types of workshops we are asking for a voluntary donation of £3 per child, which can be paid via SchoolMoney.
I am sure you will agree there is no better way to learn than by getting involved and being ‘hands on’.

There will be a Multiplication Check Test Workshop held at school on Monday 25th April.
This will enable all parents to gain a clearer understanding of what is expected of Year 4 children when they take their Multiplication Check Test in the three-week period starting from Monday 6th June. Although it will only be Year 4 children taking part this year, we would still encourage Year 3 parents to come along to the workshop as well, so that you can help your children to get ready in advance of them completing the test next year.
In order to run this workshop, we would like to ask for your best availability on Monday 25th April. Please complete this online form to select your preferred time slot. Please could we have responses by Wednesday 20th April.
Once we have had a response from all parents, we will allocate the workshop to take place during the most populated time slot.

Children and staff are invited to come to school wearing their pyjama's instead of their usual school uniforms. The day will also include a host of other activities the children have organised.
Please take into consideration that children will still be required to play outside and take part in PE/Forest School, therefore we suggest wearing winter/thick pyjama's or layers underneath along with a hoodie/jacket for outside.
Suggested £1 donation per child.

We are sorry to announce that have made the tough decision to cancel the Christmas Market on Thursday 2nd December. After advice from Public Health, we have been advised to reduce social mixing as much as possible.
We will however be continuing the festive cheer for the children in school by holding a children’s tombola and playing games (designed by the children) on the last day of term. Children can bring in money in a named envelope/money bag to take part in the games.
We are still going ahead with the Christmas Raffle and tickets are now on sale from the school office - £1 a strip. If you have any unwanted gifts you would like to donate for the Christmas Raffle, please could you drop off at the school office.
Fabulous Finish – Friday 10th December @2.15pm
You will have the opportunity to look around your child’s class and view their work. Unfortunately, we won’t be conducting an assembly in the hall.

School Performance – Tuesday 14th December @ 2.30pm
Children in Silbury Class will be putting on a performance of ‘Born in a Barn’. Due to Covid we are unable to offer as many tickets as in the past. Therefore, we are prioritising tickets to those who have children in Silbury, then Sarum and then Nursery. If we have any additional tickets, these will be available on a first come first served basis.
Please click here to pre-book your tickets (limited to 2 tickets per child). You will be required to carry out a lateral flow test before arriving onsite and face coverings will need to be worn at all times.
Christmas Lunch - Wednesday 15th December
To order your child a lunch please visit Eduspot (SchoolMoney). If you have already ordered your child a lunch for that day, please log in and amend the menu choices.

Due to the increase in confirmed cases and limited staffing we are asking those parents who have booked their child into Breakfast and/or After School Club this week and next week to either cancel their booking or collect your child at your earliest convenience. We would like to take all the children on a trip to the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon to watch the pantomime ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ on Thursday 16th December.
Unfortunately, due to staffing ratios we are unable to take the Nursery children with us, however we look forward to welcoming them on the trip when they join Reception Class.
We are asking for £12.95 per child to cover ticket costs for this wonderful opportunity to see a professional production at Christmas time. Transport costs will be subsidised by the school.
We are aiming to leave school at 9.00am and return at 2.00pm.
Please can all children be in school for 8.30am and we ask that the sub-station is empty of all cars by 8.45am.

If you would like to get involved with the Christmas Market or have any other fundraising ideas, we are holding a meeting on Wednesday 3rd November at 2pm.

If you would like to attend, please could you let us know by clicking here.

If your child is required to take a PCR due to receiving a positive result on a Lateral Flow Device or being identified as a close contact who has tested positive, we strongly recommend travelling to a testing site rather than ordering a postal kit in order to avoid missing vital education.
The results from testing sites are coming back much sooner than postal results.

From time to time children are sick (vomit) either at home or at school. Unfortunately it is not possible to distinguish between the causes, and therefore it is essential that the same rule of exclusion applies in all cases of vomiting or diarrhoea.
In the Health Protection Agency document, “Guidelines for the Control of Infection and Communicable Disease in School and Early Years Settings”, the guidance is:
Diarrhoea and vomiting exclusion
Diarrhoea and/or vomiting commonly affects children and can be caused by a number of different germs, including viruses, parasites and bacteria. Infections can be easily spread from person to person (by unwashed hands), especially in children. In general, it is recommended that any child with diarrhoea and/or vomiting symptoms must remain off school or nursery until they have been free of symptoms for 48 hours (the ‘48 hour rule’) and feel well.
We ask that you adhere to the ‘48 hour rule’ to reduce the risk of infection for all children and staff in school. For an example, if your child is sick at lunchtime on a Tuesday, they should not return to school until after lunch on Thursday, provided there have not been any further episodes of vomiting.
If your child is absent from school because of illness or any other reason, you should telephone the school office on 01380 813436 or email admin@st-barnabas.wilts.sch.uk before 8.45am on each and every day of absence.

We thought it would be helpful to write to you with the latest advice from Public Health as we move to Step 4 for the easing of restrictions from Monday 19 July. In the letter below we have the latest information on Test and Trace and how it changes from Monday.
The advice to all Wiltshire schools is that we should continue the systems and processes that we have in place currently until the end of the school’s summer term. This includes the staggered starts and finishes, the bubbles that are in place and keeping the level of social interaction between personnel within the school to a minimum.
Once again, we thank you for your continued support in protecting our school community.

Due to the Government’s announcement last week regarding lockdown restrictions not fully being lifted, we have updated our events for this term.
We unfortunately have had to cancel the whole school disco and family lunch following sports day. We will still be holding sports day for the children but parents/carers will not be permitted to attend. Staff will be taking plenty of photographs and filming throughout the day and will be uploaded to Class Dojo.
Following on from a very successful Christmas raffle, we are holding a Summer raffle and have managed to get some great prizes already. More details on the raffle will be sent this week.
The Year 6 Leavers Assembly has been organised for Tuesday 20th July at 1.15pm. We plan to hold the assembly outside, weather permitting, but may need to move into the hall, therefore please could we ask that no more than 2 guests per child attend the assembly.

Updated PE/Forest School Kit
At St Barnabas Primary School we believe that uniform promotes a sense of pride and belonging to our school community.
To achieve this we are introducing a new branded red PE hoodie for all children in school. They are to be worn for PE or when representing the school at various sporting events and can also be worn on visits and trips with the school (hoodies do not replace the school jumpers/cardigans). We would also like to promote the wearing of house colour t-shirts as part of the PE kit.
We would like to introduce the PE hoodie as soon as possible but can understand there is a cost involved, therefore we are making the hoodies optional for the rest of this academic year but mandatory from September 2021.
There is also the option of purchasing a green school branded Forest School hoodie for your child when participating in Forest School.
We have managed to source the hoodies and coloured t-shirts at the best available prices:
PE Hoodie - £9.50
Forest School Hoodie - £9.50
Coloured t-shirt (red, yellow, blue & green) - £2.00
Please place your order via the SchoolMoney app (or website) in the ‘Shop’ section. Please let Mrs Saunders know if you have any issues placing your order.
Any orders placed by Friday 28th May should be ready for distributing at the beginning of Term 6. Orders received after this date may result in a delay. Orders are subject to availability from the manufacturers.
If you have any questions regarding the uniform, please contact either Mrs Clough or Mrs Saunders.

Below are some documents for you to share at home with your children. They are there as a reminder of the importance to stay safe whilst online, which is something that we have been focusing on in school over the past couple of days.
There are two documents - 'Online Smartie the Penguin' and 'Chicken Clicking' aimed at KS1, and a SMART document and the link below, which leads to an E-Safety game, aimed at KS2 children.

04.01.21 - IMPORTANT
After the Prime Minister’s announcement this evening, school will only be open for vulnerable children and children of key workers from tomorrow. Please ensure that the form emailed today requesting keyworker details is completed by 9.00 pm tonight. Access the form here.
Priority will be given to those children where both parents are keyworkers followed by NHS staff, care workers and educational staff. You will receive an email this evening confirming whether we are able to provide a place for your child.
For those children completing home learning, work will be available on Microsoft Teams from tomorrow. If you have problems accessing Teams, work is also on the website under the Classes tab.
Once again, I thank you for your continued support.
Many thanks,

Christmas Tree Decoration Competition

Christmas Events
We’re delighted to announce that the St Barnabas Primary School Christmas Raffle 2020 is up and running with all proceeds going towards improving our Early Years outdoor area.
To launch the initiative we have sent home raffle tickets with your child. If you would like more, please come to the school office.
If you would like to take part and be in with the chance of winning any of this year’s prizes all you have to do is fill out and return the tickets stubs with the correct money, in an envelope marked Christmas Raffle, to the school office before the 11th December.
Each ticket costs £1 and a book of five tickets £5.00.
If you do not want to partake, please return the unused tickets to the school office.
We would like to use this platform to say a big thank you to Chloe Stevens for organising the raffle prizes and to everyone who has donated a prize, particularly our local independents who are always so generous to our cause. A full list of prizes can be found in the link below and we will endeavor to keep it updated, as and when any other donations come our way. The raffle will be drawn on Monday 14th December.
For those of you who would like more tickets to buy or sell on to friends, family and neighbours, get in touch via email or visit the school office.
GOOD LUCK AND THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR SUPPORTING OUR CHRISTMAS FUNDRAISER.
We are raising money to help towards improving our Early Years outdoor area. The proposed playground makeover includes laying artificial grass and erecting a full length wooden canopy to improve the appearance and functionality of the space.

Christmas Lunch - 15th December 2020
This year our Christmas Lunch arrangements will be a little different to usual as we are unable to invite parents/families to join in the celebrations. However, the children will still be able enjoy a Christmas Lunch.
If you would like to book a Christmas lunch for your child please do so by completing this online form by Friday 6th December. It would be really helpful if you could still complete the form even if you do not want to order a lunch. If you have already booked/paid for a lunch, please still complete the form and select the relevant options.
Please note NO OTHER MEAL CHOICES WILL BE SERVED ON THIS DAY. If you do not wish your child/ren to have Christmas meal then they will need to be provided with a packed lunch from home.
The cost of the lunch is £2.50 and payment can be made via SchoolMoney (if applicable). Children in Reception, Year 1 and 2 and children entitled to free school meals will not be charged.

School Tea Towels
As a unique fundraiser, children have drawn their self-portraits which have then been printed onto tea towels. These would make ideal Christmas presents for family and friends!
The product is 100% cotton (size 79cm x 48cm) and a sample of the design can be found below. If you would like to make a purchase, please complete the order form below and hand it in to the office with your payment. Alternatively, orders can be made via SchoolMoney in the ‘School Shop’ section.
The cost of each single tea towel is £5 and in order to ensure that we beat the Christmas rush we need your orders back into the office or via SchoolMoney by the end of the day on Wednesday 25th November.
Thanks very much and we hope you like them!

Dear all,
Following the latest guidance for schools released last night, we are now unfortunately not in a position to have any unnecessary visitors on the school site, therefore we are unable to invite you to watch the children's performance on Friday afternoon.
We will film the performance and upload this to the school website for you all to watch instead.
There will be no Forest School this Friday for Sarum due to the visit from K'z Dance. Children are to come wearing bright Indian inspired clothing. Children will be dancing outside so please ensure warm clothing is provided.
