Nursery Class

Welcome To Nursery Class

In our Nursery Class we deliver high quality learning experiences for 2, 3 and 4 year old children. The Nursery is incorporated within the Primary School providing a smooth transition within the Early Years Foundation stage into Reception year.  We continually strive to provide the very best care and learning for our children.

Ofsted 2018 GOOD – “The small group size and effective key person system helps children to settle well and play confidently.”

“…Children are settled, happy and ready to learn because staff provide a welcoming and stimulating environment…”

The Nursery Class has three age groups which the children progress through during their Nursery journey.  Starting with Little Explorers then moving on to Explorers before finally becoming an Adventurer in their pre-school year.  The Nursery class is located within our Early Year’s unit of the school, alongside our reception class. The two settings work closely together and share the outdoor space while each having their own indoor environment. The Nursery class share the same vision and ethos as all our St Barnabas pupils.  They frequently participate within whole school life as they join the main school for lunch in the hall and a lunchtime play, as well as other key events and celebrations throughout the year.

We provide a safe and stimulating learning environment, both inside and out, which sparks children’s imagination and curiosity. We promote learning through play and allow children time and space, to explore, discover and develop their own ideas. We use natural materials and open ended resources, such as loose parts, to support creativity and imagination. Individual areas provide a carefully organised and equipped learning environment that meets the children’s needs, interests, and stages of development. Our outside areas provide the children with access to outside play throughout the year direct from the classroom (full waterproofs provided) to provide a free flowing learning environment with a fully equipped mud kitchen and vegetable garden. Skilful adults engage and interact with the children, focusing and expanding on their interests and current development levels, ensuring each child is supported and challenged to reach their full potential.

We have a team of highly qualified and experienced staff, including our Early Years Teacher, working together to provide a rich and stimulating nursery experience, following the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Our Nursery Class is managed by the same senior team as our primary pupils, which enables us to provide consistent and effective relationships with our children and parents. This also means they receive the expert knowledge of all school staff to support their individual needs. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum and have high expectations for all our children. We strive to give every child the opportunity to achieve the highest of standards learning and development.
