Nursery / Reception

This year in Forest school the children are working on lots of different skills. They are building confidence in nature, this includes exploring in the forest and following the safety rules. They have started to attempt to climb the trees and the rope equipment which is all tangling from the trees and not on stable ground.

Nursery and Reception children have completed some challenges already in Forest school. They have all worked together to build a den. The only rule being at least one person had to fit inside.

The following week the children and I worked together to build a taller tent. This meant we could all fit inside. Once they completed the challenges they had lots of fun in the forest and helped one another to use and play on the different equipment.

Mini challenge week, Reception and Nursery had lost of different activities to complete in forest school this week. They had blocks to walk along, ladders to climb, a swing to jump on as well as trees to climb. It was another great forest school session enjoyed by all.

Another fantastic forest school sessions this week. Nursery and reception had lots of fun using the shovel to clean up leaves and fill the tyres as well as completing a weekly challenge. This week the challenge was to complete tree faces. This meant that they had some clay, they chose a tree and spread the clay on the tree to get an imprint. We have some awesome tree faces.

A great session today the children started to create a bug hotel and will be doing this again next week. Once they had completed the challenge everyone went and played in the forest, climbing trees or using the equipment.

TERM 2

Over the past few weeks, the children have been having so much fun exploring the outdoors! They’ve built cosy dens, worked together as a team, and even started learning how to make a fire (with lots of grown-up help and safety, of course!).

Next week is extra exciting—we’ll be creating a real campfire and roasting marshmallows! This is a lovely way for the children to experience nature, learn new skills, and celebrate all their hard work.

Don’t worry—everything will be done safely, with plenty of supervision. We can’t wait to share photos of their big smiles as they enjoy this special treat!

Thank you for supporting their outdoor adventures—it’s amazing to see their confidence grow each week.

TERM 3

Reception began Term 3 with an exciting Forest School session, embracing the outdoors despite the wet weather. Their enthusiasm and curiosity set a wonderful tone for the term ahead.

The children took part in a deer hunt, searching for clues and learning how to spot signs of wildlife. Along the way, they discovered evidence of rabbits, deer, and even larger animals such as foxes and badgers. This hands‑on exploration helped them think like young naturalists, observing, questioning, and sharing ideas.

Another highlight was finding different types of fungi growing in the forest. This sparked great conversations about habitats, growth, and the important role fungi play in woodland ecosystems.

Even with the damp conditions, the children showed fantastic resilience and teamwork. Their positive attitude made the session a memorable start to the term.

Reception have been busy learning all about birds. This week in Forest School, the children enjoyed creating beautiful bird bowls to use for food or water, as well as listening carefully to a variety of bird calls. They also made their own bird food, helping them to develop an understanding of how to care for wildlife and the natural environment.

Some children chose not to take part in the activity on this occasion, and they will be given the opportunity to try again next week.

This week, despite the wet weather, the children had lots of fun. They enjoyed climbing through the secret tunnel and making bird food once again, giving those who missed out previously the chance to take part.

Next week is the final session of Term 3, and we’re looking forward to celebrating with plenty of treats – and even a fire to keep us warm!
